ABOUT THE ARTIST

Thais Nunes Sugahara is a self-taught Brazilian artist whose work moves between narrative symbolism, sacred iconography, and the sensory experience of painting, connecting spirituality, imagination, and materiality through a dialogue between classical techniques and contemporary approaches.

After earning a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urbanism, she devoted herself full-time to painting.

Her original paintings explore the reconnection between our genuine essence and the sacred, merging the playful with the transcendental. Her traditional and digital canvases transform into multidimensional realms where vibrant compositions intertwine with poetic narratives, evoking mystical imaginaries. Each work invites the viewer to explore a unique mythology filled with cosmic and timeless forces that evoke symbolic memory, internal states of consciousness exploration and inner integration, and a reconnection with authenticity.

Lately, her works navigate between the mystical and the human, promoting the beautification of physical and psychic territories, enriching the symbolic landscapes of the collective unconscious through productions that combine technical rigor, refined aesthetics, and conceptual depth.

Exhibitions:

"International panorama of small-scale visual arts" - Collective Exhibition at IACAM (Artist and cultural institute), Lorena/SP. Dez. 2025

I participated with three original small-scale drawings dedicated to celebrating the assertiveness of small studies, where intuition is directly translated into lines that intersect, forming an intricate web of visceral concepts. It was a celebration of the complexity of the psyche within the simplicity of a sketch that fits in the palm of the hand.

"Ateliê Livre" - Collective Exhibition of Visual Arts at Hotel Olympia, Lorena/SP - Dez. 2025

I participated with an average of nine large-scale oil paintings that expand the initial gesture into symbolic narratives constructed through color, material, and the building of pictorial time.

CREATIVE PROCESS

The practice of art is, for Thais, like a dance among the spheres of her consciousness. Each creation represents a fragment in the intricate puzzle of her inner world. The artist has sought to access deeper layers of the psyche, believing that art possesses a restorative power, with the potential to help us in the process of reconciling the parts of ourselves that remain disconnected and unredeemed.

PHILOSOPHY

Thais's works serve as a manifesto for reconnecting with the core of our soul. The artist believes that beauty has a divine and integrative nature, which manifests through art as a channel for individual and collective rebirth, in resistance to a sterile post-industrial society, characterized by a scarcity of symbols, superficial references, and disconnected from the human essence.

TECHNIQUES AND INSPIRATIONS

Thais draws inspiration from the echoes of history, embracing the grace of Renaissance portraits, religious iconography, and the timeless power of narrative symbolism to create a unique and heartfelt visual language, blending both classical and contemporary techniques.
